What they are

See out. The glare stays outside.

A sheer roller blind, also called a sunscreen or screen blind, is a roller blind made from a fine woven mesh. Lower it on a bright day and it takes the glare and much of the heat off the glass, while you still see the view through it.

In daylight it also gives you privacy: from outside, people see the fabric, not into the room. That’s why it’s the go-to blind for living rooms, kitchens, home offices and any window with a view.

  • Cuts glare and heat, keeps the view
  • Privacy from outside during the day
  • Blocks most UV, so floors and furniture fade less
  • Chain or motorised, inside or over the frame

How see-through?

Pick your openness

Sunscreen fabric comes in different openness levels: how much of the weave is open. Lower means more privacy and less glare. Higher means a clearer view.

  1. 1%Most privacyThe softest view and the least glare. Good for screens and street-facing rooms.
  2. 3%Private, with a viewClear shapes outside and very little glare.
  3. 5%Our most fittedThe best balance of view, privacy and glare for most homes.
  4. 10%Clearest viewThe sharpest view out, with a little more light and glare.

An illustration only. We bring real samples to your home so you can hold each one up at your own window.

Light or dark?

The colour changes the view

Dark sunscreens absorb light, so the view through them looks sharper and the glare drops further. Light ones look softer and brighter from inside and give a little more privacy by day. Two of our jobs show the difference.

Good to know

Private by day. Not at night.

A sunscreen works because it’s brighter outside than in. After dark, with your lights on, the room is the bright side, so people outside can see in. That’s why bedrooms and street-facing rooms usually get a blockout too.

Common questions

Sheer roller blinds — your questions answered

Straight answers before you book.

A roller blind made from a fine woven mesh you can see through, also called a sunscreen or screen blind. It cuts glare and heat and gives privacy from outside during the day, while you still see the view.

Yes. A sunscreen works because it’s brighter outside than in. After dark, with your lights on, the room becomes the bright side, so people outside can see in. For bedrooms and street-facing rooms we usually pair it with a blockout as a double roller blind.

That’s the openness: how much of the weave is open. A lower number gives more privacy and less glare; a higher number gives a clearer view. 5% is the one we fit most because it balances all three.

Dark colours give the clearest view out and cut glare the most. Light colours look softer and brighter from inside and give a little more privacy by day. We bring both to your measure so you can compare them at your own window.

Most of it. As a rule of thumb, the UV that gets through is about the same as the openness, so a 5% fabric blocks around 95%. That helps protect floors and furniture from fading.

Yes. They can be motorised and run from a remote, a wall switch or an app, which is handy on wide, high or hard-to-reach windows.

Usually 2–3 weeks from your free in-home measure to installation. We confirm the timing for your order when we visit.
